I wanted to have a room in our
"house on the rock" to share some insight, ideas, and encouragement to
help others enjoy creating memories, traditions, and fun for their families and
friends. The kitchen is a place where I spend a lot of my
time these days. Creating surprises and baking from scratch are two things I do
there. Sharing conversations with family or friends is a special treat as I work
in the kitchen. There is something comforting and loving about homemade
meals. Just think of the smell of pies, rolls, chicken soup, or a roast cooking!
Memories of my childhood are
filled with "kitchen scenes". My mother enjoyed preparing meals,
baking goodies, and being in the kitchen with her children. We would talk,
share, and laugh as we fixed dinner or cleaned it up. Even when I moved away, my
favorite homecomings centered on being in the kitchen helping out. I have
wonderful memories of rolling, cutting out, and decorating sugar
cookies...powdered sugar noses, and small sweet bites of uncooked dough stolen
from the cookie cutters. These memories have become traditions with my own
five children.
This page is here to remind us
that we need to take time to remember, create, share, pass-on, experiment and
just plain have fun in our kitchens. We are helping to create family memories
that really do last a lifetime. The kitchen is a place that also reminds
us to spend the time to counsel, encourage, and listen to others as we work in
our homes. This is a noble calling that we are to embrace: to
lovingly serve others from our kitchens. To see what's in the Kitchen
